Herpes simplex virus one (HSV-1) is also known as the cold sore virus. A cold sore is a fluid-filled, painful blister that is usually on or around the lips. Cold sores are caused by a herpes simplex virus infection.These blisters are often grouped together in patches. After the blisters break, a crust forms over the resulting sore. Cold sores usually heal within two weeks.
Cold sores most often occur on the lips which distinguishes them from the common canker sore which is usually inside the mouth.Many don’t know that the herpes simplex virus one (HSV-1), commonly referred to as the cold sore virus, and the herpes simplex virus two (HSV-2) strains are virtually identical under a microscope, sharing 50% of their DNA.
